Merckia physodes

Merckia physodes, also known as the bushman's poison or Cape poison, is a plant species native to southern Africa, particularly in the mountainous regions of South Africa and Lesotho.

The plant contains toxic compounds, including bufadienolides, which have been used in traditional medicine for their medicinal properties, particularly in treating various health conditions such as fever, rheumatism, and respiratory issues.

The medicinal properties of Merckia physodes are said to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, making it a potential natural remedy for pain relief and reducing inflammation.

However, due to its toxicity, Merckia physodes is usually prepared in herbal remedies in small amounts and under the guidance of a qualified practitioner, often in the form of infusions or tinctures.
