Conditions
Ceropegia rupicola exhibits inhibitory activity against neutral endopeptidase (NEP) through its methanolic extract. In screenings of Yemeni medicinal plants, this specific plant extract demonstrated a significant reduction in NEP enzymatic activity. Among all the tested extracts, the methanolic extract of Ceropegia rupicola was identified as the most active inhibitor. It achieved this inhibitory effect with a measured IC50 value of 111 microg/ml. This relationship highlights the plant's potential for targeting NEP during enzymatic inhibition studies.
Preparations
Ceropegia rupicola whole plant extracts, including aqueous, dichloromethane, and methanol varieties, were screened for their inhibitory effects against various peptidases. Among these, the methanol extract of the whole plant demonstrated significant ability to inhibit neutral endopeptidase (NEP) activity. Specifically, the methanolic extract was identified as the most active substance tested, achieving an IC50 of 111 microg/ml against NEP. While the methanol extract showed clear potency, the aqueous and dichloromethane extracts of the whole plant did not exhibit the same level of inhibitory activity in this study. None of the tested extracts from the plant were found to be active against aminopeptidase N (APN) activity.
